About Linux First Tech Reviews

Linux First Tech Reviews is an independent review site run by a Linux user of over 25 years. Every product, service, and piece of software reviewed here is something we actually use ourselves — no second-hand opinions, no vendor-supplied review units with strings attached.

Why we built this

Finding reliable reviews written from a Linux perspective is harder than it should be. Most tech review sites test on Windows or macOS and treat Linux support as an afterthought. This site exists to fill that gap — honest, first-hand reviews from someone who has lived in the Linux ecosystem for over two decades.

Our approach

  • We use what we review — every product and service on this site is part of our daily setup. If we wouldn't use it ourselves, it doesn't get a recommendation.
  • Privacy focused — we prioritise tools that respect your privacy. Open source, minimal data collection, and strong encryption are always factors in our ratings.
  • Linux first — Linux compatibility is a core requirement, not a bonus. Android support is noted where relevant.
  • Long-term experience — with 25+ years on Linux we've seen tools come and go. We favour software and services with longevity and active development.

What we cover

  • Software — Cross-platform apps with native or excellent Linux support
  • Services — Web services, SaaS tools, and subscriptions that work on Linux and Android
  • Hardware — Peripherals, laptops, and devices with good Linux driver support
  • Electronics — PC components, gadgets, and consumer electronics

Our rating system

We rate products on a scale of 1–5 stars based on value, build quality, Linux compatibility, privacy practices, documentation, and overall experience. Half-star increments are used where appropriate.

Independence

We are independently run. Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you purchase through them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps keep the site running. Affiliate relationships never influence our ratings or recommendations. We will always say if something isn't good enough, regardless of whether there is an affiliate program attached.
